Afghan rivals talk about coalition

The US would be receptive to a power-sharing arrangement between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and his rival if they can agree upon it, White House officials said.

There is to be an election run-off on 7 November between Mr Karzai and former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah but they are discussing a coalition government that could either replace the run-off or follow it.
