Adecco US probe claims two victims

THE furore surrounding accountancy 'irregularities' at the world's biggest temporary staffing agency, Adecco, has claimed its chief financial officer and the head of its North American arm as victims.

The Swiss recruitment group said it acknowledged both the resignation of Felix Weber as group finance director and Julio Arrieta as head of the North American division at the heart of the accounting problems.

Andres Cano, Adecco's group financial controller, has taken over the financial director role on an interim basis until a permanent replacement can be found while main board director Phillippe Marcel, head of Adecco's French arm, has become the group's special delegate in the US.

Adecco chairman John Bowmer has taken on a new role as executive chairman to help spearhead the company's co-operation with investigations by both the Securities and Exchange Commission and New York court authorities, the company said today following a board meeting in Switzerland.

The board, headed by group chief executive Jérôme Caille, confirmed today its audit and finance committee had hired a firm of New York lawyers as independent experts for the committee's investigations.
