31% drop in youth crime

Police efforts to target some of London's most hardcore young offenders have led to a 31 per cent drop in car crime, burglary and street robbery in parts of the capital, it was revealed today.

Officers have been working in partnership with councils and the Government's Youth Justice Board in the struggle to get to grips with a teenage crime epidemic.

Police have warned of the emergence of a generation of young criminals who believe they are untouchable and have drawn up a list of nearly 500 of London's most prolific offenders. Some are being put under curfew and electronically tagged.
