A string of major finance companies have signed up to a new initiative to guarantee fair pay and employment rights to make London the “best city in the world to work”.

EY, KPMG and PwC are among 34 signatories to the City Hall commitment which includes paying all staff at least the London Living Wage of £10.55 an hour.

The Good Work Standard is also endorsed by London City Airport, the Met, TfL, London Fire Brigade and several boroughs.

The criteria was developed with businesses and unions and covers fair pay, conditions, wellbeing and diversity.

Peter Cheese, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said: “We need to make our organisations great places to work, to engage our people, help develop their skills, support their wellbeing and build inclusive workplaces ... These are the drivers of sustainable and responsible businesses, as well as a stronger economy and society for the future.”

Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “I want to make London a fairer city by ensuring that all Londoners get the opportunities that our city gave to me when I was growing up.”
