The palatial five-storey mansion that the Lib-Dems had as their HQ is for sale for £36 million.

The Grade II-listed property in Cowley Street, Westminster has been transformed into Mansion House, “a stately home in the heart of the Establishment”, say selling agents Knight Frank.

There are five reception rooms, seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, plus an eight-person lift, a wine room, an indoor swimming pool, a gym and a roof terrace. All furnishings, including a bronze sculpture by Rodin, are included.

The party used it from 1982 to 2011, before moving to nearby Great George Street under the leadership of Nick Clegg.
