Crossrail continues to cause ripples in good-value Acton, where the range of homes is becoming more diverse. The area is carved up by train tracks and busy roads, but parts of it are getting a facelift, with new apartment schemes bordering parks and conservation areas.

Long Island Lofts, above, is a conversion of an Art Deco car components factory, split into 34 flats with big industrial-size windows. Inside, elements of the original Thirties architecture have been restored, including the grand entrance and staircase. Prices from £495,000. Call Hamptons International on 020 3451 1512.

Nearby, Acton Gardens is part of an ambitious regeneration project, bringing 2,500 homes built around a series of squares, courtyards, communal gardens and play areas.

West Park Quarter, the latest phase, offers a range of properties, from one-bedroom flats to three-bedroom duplexes and four-bedroom penthouses. Prices from £450,000. Call 020 8993 6923.
