Adhering to Prince Charles's architecture principles: new 'sustainable' neighbourhood in Oxfordshire's Blenheim Estate embrace royal's policy

A new neighbourhood in Woodstock is being built according to the prince's policy of Landowner Legacy.

Prince Charles would approve of Park View, a new neighbourhood in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, being built on land owned by Blenheim Estate, whose famous nearby palace is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

As with Poundbury, the Dorset village built according to the architectural and environmental principles of the Prince, Park View embraces his policy of Landowner Legacy, which sets down that big landowners have a social, economic and moral responsibility to deliver "sustainable" homes that are good for the planet, use local materials and labour, and preserve the visual harmony of surrounding towns and villages.

Park View flats and houses with up to five bedrooms are for sale, all built in "vernacular" style, clad in mellow stone and brick with clay roof tiles.

Well-managed social housing fits in alongside, while Blenheim Estate retains control of all the public spaces including a village green and play areas. From £470,000. Call 01993 811881.

The estate, with local roots dating back 300 years, has a 10-year programme to build several hundred more homes.

Hanborough Gate is another of its projects, a partnership with developer Pye Homes.

Prices from £310,000. Call 01993 811881.

From the village train station at Long Hanborough, the commute to London takes just over an hour.
