Paris's prestigious Tour d’Argent restaurant is selling off 3,000 items of tableware and furniture, ready for a makeover.

Fans past and present of the restaurant include Winston Churchill, John F Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Charlie Chaplin, Salvador Dalí, Orson Welles, Brangelina and the Queen, and it has featured in literary works including In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust.

The online sale, handled by French auction house Artcurial, includes 100 rare spirits from the world-famous wine cellar, plus the 16th-century Aubusson carpet that once covered the restaurant ceiling, and 200 lots of wineglasses.

It will make way for a new phase in the Tour d’Argent’s history, marked by a redesigned logo, revised menu and renovated interior.
