Tottenham youngster Oliver Skipp is set to join Championship side Norwich on a season-long loan deal.

Skipp, 19, was at Norwich's training ground on Monday morning to complete a medical and agree personal terms with the Canaries.

The England U-21 international opted for a move to Carrow Road despite interest from newly-promoted Fulham, as well as Bundesliga sides Wolfsburg and Arminia Bielefeld, because he wants to play regular first-team football.

There were also offers from from Championship clubs Huddersfield and Reading, and Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Skipp, who signed a new four-year contract with Spurs in July, has been encouraged by the success of Chelsea pair Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham, who spent a season on loan in the Championship before becoming Premier League and England regulars last term.

The holding midfielder played just 105 minutes for Spurs last season but manager Jose Mourinho has been hugely impressed by him and has said Skipp has the "character and personality" to be a future Spurs captain.

"He is one of these kids that I have no doubt he will be an important player for Tottenham," Mourinho said in July. "I never told him I want him to go on loan, I always told him I wanted him to stay here, because that's the selfish perspective of a coach who wants the best possible squad. [But] in his mind he wants to go on loan."
