With mini cheese toasties and indulgent caviar, the afternoon tea at London design hotspot Sketch isn't one for purists — but that's what makes it so special.

The decor alone is a feast for the eyes. David Shrigley's striking pink Gallery room with its infamous collection of dusty pink velvet chairs is crying out for that perfect Instagram shot, while the quirky — and sometimes cheeky — prints that adorn the walls certainly get the conversation flowing.

But once the three-tiered cake stand arrives at the table, it's impossible to focus on anything else.

There are three tiers of sweet treats to enjoy

WHAT'S ON THE MENU

A specialist tea master is on hand to help you to choose between an exotic selection of blends, although a glass of champagne is also a fabulous way to begin.

And so is Sketch London's creative version of egg and solders: the 'egg' is a actually a perfectly light mousse, while the 'soldiers' are delicious cheesy sticks. Keep an eye out for the waiter in a sharp pink suit who serves a spoonful of caviar to go alongside it.

Next is the selection of finger sandwiches, which range from corn-fed Coronation chicken, smoked salmon and Jacob's cream, cucumber and ricotta, egg mayonnaise and a comté cheese panini.

The top tier features a fun twist on the childhood favourite of a raspberry marshmallow flump tied into a knot, and a spiced miniature apple tart in a square flaky pastry case. The pistachio choux and citrus and raspberry cake also deserve a special mention.

The sweet treats don't end with the three-tier cake stand. Once you've devoured either a fruit or plain scone with lashings of clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam, a huge slab of light Victoria Sponge is next on the menu.

If it all seems too much, staff will package it up for you to enjoy at home.

THE EXPERIENCE

Service is perfectly attentive from a stylish team dressed in striking uniforms designed by London Fashion Week favourite Richard Nicoll.

Even the champagne is dramatically long-poured which only adds to the spectacle.

The afternoon tea is unlimited, meaning you can request as many sandwiches and pastries as you can mange - so make sure you turn up hungry!

PRICE

The classic afternoon tea costs £59 per person, with the champagne afternoon tea priced at £73 per person. A children's afternoon tea is £35.
