We're well and truly in the festive season and with not long left until the big day, it's time to deck the halls.

From twinkly inside lights to dainty ornaments, Christmas is the one time of the year you can really go overboard with your home decor.

You may decide to opt for a colour scheme like white and silver if you want to keep things simple or go wild with extravagant and colourful indoor and outdoor lights.

To give you some inspiration, we've rounded up some of the best ideas on Instagram for indoor Christmas decorations.

Fireplace decor

Fireplaces are the ideal framework for your Christmas decorations.

A candelabra or wreath will make a real statement.

Or a garland of branches, leaves and decorations will add impact.

Stocking decorations

No Christmas would be complete without traditional family stockings.

Lined up above the fireplace is the classic location — and means Santa Claus has easy access.

But if you don't have a fireplace at home, some people are using their stockings as decoration elsewhere in the house too, for example hanging off the bannisters or a piece of furniture.

Silver and white Christmas decorations

Silver and white is a classic combination reminiscent of snowy winter scenes and frosty mornings.

Pair your decorations with a snow-frosted Christmas tree and you've got yourself the perfect winter wonderland.

Traditional red Christmas decor

You simply cannot go wrong with red at Christmas.

It's warm and festive and will help bring a pop of bold colour to those grey winter mornings.

Candles and ribbons are a simple way to add colour to a wreath or garland.

Paper decorations

Why not get creative and make your own Christmas decorations? You'll save money and help save the planet.
