Grade II-listed former stables for King George III’s horses have been converted into a beautiful mews house, now for sale with private access to a glorious Royal Park in south-west London.

The home is in the heart of Bushy Park, second largest of London’s Royal Parks at 1,100 acres, where deer roam free.

There is direct private access to the 18th-century Water Gardens which are closed to the public on Mondays – so the buyer of this lovely house will be able to enjoy in peace the extensive woodland, landscaped gardens, rivers and parkland.

Listed at £1.2 million with Snellers, Upper Lodge Mews is close to Kingston upon Thames and just four miles from Richmond.

In the 18th and 19th centuries the mews provided stabling for the royal hunts, used by King George III and his son George IV, a keen enthusiast who bred racehorses.

During the First and Second World Wars, Bushy Park served as a key base for the Canadian and American military.

During the First World War, it became the King’s Canadian Red Cross Special Hospital, with senior staff staying at the lodge and other personnel given homes in the mews houses.

The charming three-bedroom home that is for sale has been well looked after.

One of the highlights is the conservatory garden room, filled with natural light, which could be used as a dining room or a lounge.
