What's new in the world of restaurants

10 April 2012
  • George Fuchs, latterly at the Langham Hilton, is to take over from Anton Edelmann as maitre chef des cuisines at the Savoy, with responsibility for the River Restaurant. He'll have his work cut out as the new incumbent at the Savoy's Grill Room, Marcus Wareing, has been earning rave reviews. The River Restaurant, Savoy Hotel, Strand, WC2 (020-7420 2698).
  • Undeterred by research claiming that vegetarians are in decline, a new restaurant called Eat And Two Veg has opened in Marylebone High Street. It looks sharp and has a menu that runs from pizzas to burgers via salads, with fries as a speciality. Also listed are veggie versions of sausage and mash and shepherd's pie. Eat And Two Veg, 50 Marylebone High Street, W1 (020-7258 8599).
  • You can eat in or take away at newly opened Fresh Italy on Ludgate Hill. The menu at this new fast food concept is built around three different risotti and penne pasta with nine different sauces, plus salads, Focaccia sandwiches and so forth. They promise freshly prepared food in under two minutes, and at around £3 a dish! Fresh Italy, 38-40 Ludgate Hill, EC4 (020-7329 5729).
