What's new in the world of restaurants

10 April 2012
  • The latest opening in the gastro-Mecca that is Exmouth Market is Bar Meze, a place whose philosophy is summed up as 'eat, drink, share'. The food is Greek-Cypriot and you'll find all the classics: taramosalata from Greece, houmous from the Middle East, and halloumi - chargrilled cheese from Cyprus itself. Mezetakia - 10 cold dishes and dips served with pitta bread - costs a very reasonable £7.95. Bar Meze, 55-57 Exmouth Market, EC1 (020-7833 2026).
  • July will be the last of a series of the Wild Nations RAI music events at Circus restaurant. Next Wednesday it will be the turn of Kader Fahem and his quintet. Expect wild flamenco. Circus, 1 Upper James Street, W1 (020-7534 4000).
  • John McClements (of the eponymous Twickenham stalwart) has opened a new restaurant a couple of doors along the street. Ma Cuisine - le petit bistro - is a small restaurant serving trad French food at very keen prices: terrine de porc £3.50; coq au vin £7.50; apple tart Tatin £3.50. Ma Cuisine, 6 Whitton Road, Twickenham (020-8607 9849).
