Before heading to one of the bars, fill up on rich quesadillas (flour or corn tortillas with a melted cheese filling), £2.25 each, a taco and a mole (pronounced mol-ay, a wonderful, very slow-cooked sauce). Lunch deals are great value at £7 for two courses.

This UK version of a popular Mexico City restaurant prides itself on serving food that is as authentic as possible — meaning its quesadillas are made only with proper Mexican cheese. You can also add bavette steak, beans, tasty chicken tinga, or delicious chorizo with potatoes (from £5.75). Be sure to try a fish ceviche on the side.

More dive bar with food than restaurant, this trendy hangout is run by the Rebel Dining Society, who do all sorts of weird pop-ups, and is inspired by contemporary Mexican street food. Enjoy one of the terrific cocktails and order a few squidgy quesadillas (£3.50), a rich beef short rib burrito, spicy slaw and a cactus salad.
