Tongue lashing for TV beer ad

10 April 2012

A beer advert in which a woman forces her partner to lick their home clean has been criticised by a TV regulator for its sexual theme.

The Independent Television Commission said the man's actions in the Carling commercial were "mimicking oral sex".It said the ad breached its rules for scheduling sexual imagery at times when children were likely to be watching.

The ITC announced in June it had decided to bar transmission of the ad before 9pm following 38 complaints from viewers.TV advertising chiefs had earlier said it was fine for youngsters because they would not understand the innuendo.

The man is initially seen licking up a spillage from his beer can off a table. But then the woman hits on the idea of leaving a trail of Carling through their apartment to encourage him lick it clean.

She is then seen about to pour beer over herself, but finds the can is empty.

The ITC "judged it clear from the man's actions and his partner's response to them that he was mimicking oral sex".It ruled, however, that the advert did not infringe rules on taste.
