'Sloaney Pony' is best place to drink in Britain

Evening Standard10 April 2012

A London pub dubbed the "Sloaney Pony" in the Eighties has been voted the UK's best. It is the second year running that the The White Horse, at Parson's Green, has won the accolade.

The pub is known for its unusual range of 150 bottled and 20 draft beers. Patrons are encouraged to try them with their food instead of wine.

Landlord Mark Dorber said he was "thrilled" with the results, published in trade magazine the Morning Advertiser today.

The top 10 was dominated by London pubs with The Churchill Arms, in Kensington, third, The Anchor and Hope at Waterloo fifth, The Gun in Docklands, sixth and Islington's Marquess Tavern in ninth.

The poll was compiled by over 500 pub industry figures.
