Leading chefs, restaurant owners and foodies have come together to tackle food and water poverty by launching a new charity dinner.

A Good Dinner will be hosted by comedian Alexander Armstrong and critic Giles Coren, and its founders include TV chef Mark Hix and Hawksmoor co-founder Will Beckett.

Guests can listen to a hip hop brass band as they enjoy food, cocktails and a Bibendum-curated wine list, before attending an exclusive after-party.

Organisers hope to raise £250,000 and that it will become an annual event. Charities The One Foundation, Magic Breakfast and Action Against Hunger will all benefit equally.

Mr Beckett, who is also chairman of Rockfish, said: “We all feel we are involved in an industry — a really fun one to work in and one we have all done okay out of — but which we sometimes sit awkwardly with knowing there are big food and drink problems in the world. At Hawksmoor we are just about comfortable with that as long as we are trying to do something to change the situation at the same time.”

It costs £5,000 for a table of 10 at the event at The Bloomsbury Ballroom on October 11. The majority are sold out.
