BEST FOR SPICE LOVERS: SMOKEHOUSE CHISWICK

After the success of the first Smokehouse in Islington, the team has opened one in Chiswick. The chefs have adopted barbecue styles from around the world: expect gochujang, charred vegetables, chipotle and jerk spices, plus lots of smoky flavours, because they use ‘low and slow’ techniques. For the best in locally sourced food eaten al fresco, try eco chef Tom Hunt’s Middle Eastern barbecue. As well as meaty options such as chorizo burgers, there are delicious things for vegetarians, too, such as the Bermondsey Frier cheese, which is similar to halloumi.

Here it’s all about Thai barbecue, cooked over wood embers. There is nothing subtle about the punchy flavours and in-your-face textures that go into the dishes, such as the fish sauce chicken wings and Cornish chilli crab, at this no-reservations venue — and that’s definitely a good thing.
