From Hugh Grant’s floppy fringe to the feathered headdresses of carnival performers, Notting Hill is many parts of London rolled into one.

The vibrant variety to be found in this west London neighbourhood also extends to its food.

While Notting Hill may be home to some of the most prestigious fine dining spots in the cityThe Ledbury and Core by Clare Smyth to name but a few big-hitters – it’s also home to great food at more affordable prices.

Whether you’re looking for Instagrammable breakfast bowls or hot rotisserie chicken, take a look at our list of the best dishes you’ll find in Notting Hill under £10.

Chilli chicken ramen at Tonkotsu - £10

Paul Winch-Furness

Nothing beats a chill quite like a bowl of chicken noodle soup – and this one comes with a bang. Tonkotsu may be named after its sumptuous pork broth dish, but this chilli chicken ramen might just be the best offering on the menu. Homemade noodles swim in a crystal clear chicken broth, loaded up with chilli chicken, bamboo shoots, mange tout and a seasoned egg.

Fairfax at Eggslut - £9

Don’t get us wrong, you can pay a lot less than £9 for an egg sandwich in London. LA-hailing fast food chain Eggslut does charge relatively high prices for its egg-centric food, but the returns are there thanks to high quality ingredients. The Fairfax is a fluffy brioche bun (by bakers Bread Ahead) filled with buttery scrambled eggs (by Clarence Court), caramelised onions, chives, melted cheddar cheese and sriracha mayo. Carnivores can also tuck into fried egg-topped turkey burgers and bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches for another 50p.

Aglio, olio e peperoncino spaghetti at Da Maria - £9.50

Your mama might have a way with a pomodoro, but Da Maria matriarch Maria Ruocca could just give her a run for her money. This family-run Italian has been serving up pasta, pizza and all the trimmings to a dedicated Notting Hill following since 1980. Every pasta offering at the much-loved trattoria comes in at under £10, including this simple but superb dish of spaghetti with fresh garlic, olive oil and fiery chilli.

Cornish haddock at The Chipping Forecast - £9.50

It’s well and truly in the running for London’s Most Puntastic Restaurant, but The Chipping Forecast also serves up some pretty seaworthy fish and chips. The fish is delivered fresh from Cornwall everyday, with a hook-to-plate turnaround guarantee of 48 hours. If £15 portions of the Friday favourite has you choking on your battered sausage, then allow this Notting Hill spot to put your pocket at ease: a portion of Cornish haddock with triple cooked chips, tartare sauce and minted pea puree comes in at just £9.50. And don't worry if it's not on their website – they tend to always have a portion going.

Quarter chicken at Cocotte - £8

If the slow spin of a rotisserie chicken causes you dizzying excitement, this cosy Notting Hill spot will leave you reeling. French restaurant Cocotte marinades its free-range meat in herbs and spices for 24 hours before slow roasting it on a spit until tender on the inside, crisp on the outside. A quarter chicken will cost you £8 with your choice of sauce for another £1 – but beware that all sides come in at £6.

Margherita at Pizza East - £10

Shoreditch hotspot Pizza East is not so eastern anymore, having sprouted second and third locations in Portobello and Kentish Town. The west London spot is bang slap in the middle of Portobello Market, offering handmade pizzas in rustic chic surroundings (the influence of its Soho House bosses is tangible) in a restored Georgian pub. Pick up a wood-fired margherita and get the added bonus of its robustly flavoured buffalo mozzarella.

Passionate salmon tiradito at Andina - £9

www.studiolau.com

Andina’s love of this classic cured fish dish has travelled from the coasts of Peru to Notting Hill, all via its first home in Shoreditch. Chef Martin Morales’s Peruvian pitstop – styled after the informal “picanteria” restaurants run by Andean women in their homes – puts the national dish at its heart. The salmon tiradito serves slithers of the fish swimming in passion fruit tiger’s milk with mixed quinoa, salsa criolla, watercress.

Napoli at Saporitalia - £8.95

Yes, this is our second pizza on the list, but is it possible to have too much pizza? Saporitalia wouldn’t say so, a Notting Hill favourite set up by two Sorrento-hailing brothers who came to London just over 20 years ago. Take a trip to the spiritual home of pizza with the restaurant’s Napoli offering, which tops a chewy base with a fully flavoured tomato sauce, a salty mix of anchovies, capers and black olives, and parmesan cheese.

Acai bowl at Farm Girl Cafe - £8.50

Get your filters at the ready, because Farm Girl Cafe is Instagram heaven. Once you’ve stopped snapping your surroundings, you might just find that this Antipodean-inspired Notting Hill restaurant offers good foodie ways to start your day too. To get a health kick Aussie-style, dig into one of their acai bowls, which mixes the organic Amazonian berries with banana and almond milk, topping it off with chia seeds, seasonal fruit and coconut shavings.

Honeycomb crunchie at The Shed - £6

Sweet dreams are made of honeycomb – at least they are at The Shed. This restaurant from the Gladwin Brothers sources as much veg, meat and herbs as it can from the family’s West Sussex farm, but this dessert makes a nod to a supermarket favourite. Homemade honeycomb is dipped in dark chocolate and served with whipped mascarpone and tarragon salt – that’s right, it’s a fancy Crunchie bar.
