Merchants Tavern: High-end European fare

Angela Murano's Shoreditch space is stylish take on seasonal dining

Having gilded her reputation with her lauded Murano and Cafe Murano ventures, chef Angela Hartnett’s latest endeavour with partner Neil Borthwick sees her deliver high-end European fare in a cavernous former apothecary. The sophisticated setting – think exposed brick and butter-soft leather booths – is matched by a shifting menu that displays all the finesse you’d expect from those behind the stoves.

Highlights include roasted quail, a head-turning cote de boeuf sharing plate and standout Sunday roasts. Plus, the recent addition of a Monday wine club, which sees a rotating cast of small-batch wines at half price, makes it all the more attractive.
