London’s best restaurants are rolling out carts so you can skip the dull queueing-for-a-table ordeal and get instant gratification. It’s time to get on the wagon
Daily catch: the Chiltern Firehouse oyster and champagne cart

Can’t get a table at Chiltern Firehouse? Whatevs. True hipcats have their fix of Nuno Mendes’s cooking at the oyster and champagne cart in the courtyard — no reservations needed. Blankets and vodka are available if you want to warm up.

As well as his 10 restaurants, fêted chef Mark Hix has a travelling fish finger sandwich operation. It pops up everywhere — feeding Clean Bandit fans at last month’s Alexandra Palace gig and at Brockley Market on Saturdays — and is available for private hire.

Wahaca’s Mexican Street Kitchen

A compact operation that prepares generous burritos, tacos and other spin-off versions of the Mexican favourite’s greatest hits.

The restaurant uses its cart, StreeThai, to try out new recipes around town. It is easy to spot, decorated by street artist Hunto.

Not content with feeding diners at their Notting Hill and Chelsea restaurants, Oliver and Richard Gladwin bring their seasonal creations to a wider base. Catch them close to home or this summer, when planned appearances include Lovebox, Meatopia and on a UK tour.
