Maille has long been synonymous with flavour, a spoonful of its smooth and intense mustard becoming the chef’s secret weapon over the years. It takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary. For 269 years, since Antoine Maille became the official vinegar-maker to Louis XV, it has been at the forefront of French culinary culture. But it’s not just savoury dishes that welcome the warmth of Maille mustard; it can also be used to enliven patisserie and puddings.

This month the brand is celebrating the best of British and French culinary culture by hosting its own foodie festival – Fête de la Gastronomie. Earlier this week, Maille transformed the South Bank into La Rive Gauche for an evening of fine food and flavour.

What’s on: culinary treats in the capital

The foodie fun doesn’t end with La Fête: the next step in the taste takeover will be a series of events in Maille’s Piccadilly Boutique. Offering an array of mustards and vinegars, ingredients for the gourmet and even mustard on tap, La Maison Maille also has experts on hand to advise on flavour pairings. And from September, there will be a series of masterclasses introducing innovative ways to flavour your food with Maille mustard.

Learn to make the perfect macaron

The first masterclass will help keen bakers craft the perfect macaron. The session will be hosted by Damien Rigollet, head chef of Coq d’Argent, a classic French restaurant in the heart of London. His delectable menus feature elegant takes on French classics, each with a contemporary twist.

During the class, Rigollet will recount his experience working at some of the most celebrated French restaurants in London, which food inspires him and how he created honey mustard-flavoured macarons for Maille. This will be followed by a more hands-on experience, as Rigollet shares the secret to perfect macarons. This masterclass is a unique event and shouldn’t be missed.
