Fay Maschler's week in food: from white pudding to spit-roast chicken at the Ned

The Evening Standard's restaurant critic details the culinary highlights of her week
Sublime: Rhubarb jelly and buttermilk ice cream at The Pony & Trap
Fay Maschler4 May 2017

1. I take Irish Joe to Summers, above Kilburn’s Sir Colin Campbell pub, where former St John chef Ruairidh Summers reigns. White pudding, sour cabbage and beer mustard goes down well.

2. With my awayday gang at The Pony & Trap outside Chew Magna, we relish Josh Eggleton’s farm-to-fork strategy, finishing with sublime rhubarb jelly with buttermilk ice cream.

3. Checking out Koya Bar to see if it is still one of my 50 Favourite Restaurants (it is). No queuing at breakfast time for its super, soupy take on kedgeree — dulcet egg, crisp haddock skin.

4. How lovely when a friend gives you a present on his birthday — Stephen Friedman treats us to The River Café, where I home in on fat fresh green peas in both courses.

5. During the feeding of the 1,600 at The Ned’s launch party, spit-roast chicken with mayo from Zobler’s Deli.
