Beautiful: a homemade apricot tarte Tatin

1. At Maison Assouline, balls of what gets described as quinoa risotto at the launch of Departures magazine — The London Issue. Find inside my choice of seven restaurants surviving the test of time.

2. “Moody lighting” necessitates phone torches all round at Truscott Cellar in Belsize Park — most ergonomically hopeless restaurant of the year — where I toy with roasted squash, spelt and goat’s curd in honey and truffle dressing.

3. Sometimes only Peking duck will do. Royal China Club in Baker Street does it masterfully.

4. My daughter-in-law Jane is painting the sign for my sister’s pub The Wells, where we three lunch, me on chef Greg Smith’s agile take on kedgeree.

5. A beautiful homemade apricot tarte Tatin, the finale at our friends Rosianne and Simon Pack’s Sunday lunch in the country where sublime wines are liberally poured.
