If you can’t get to Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, she can come to you via her takeaway in Harrods. Light vol au vents are filled with lobster, sweetbreads and salsify, lovely deep pools to paddle in.

Buying a suitcase at John Lewis, I have lunch of a remarkably well-assembled, well-dressed salad of pollo, pere e Parmigiano in Rossopomodoro on the third floor.

Twinkling lights, cosseting soft blankets, the Campari Terrace at Ritorno Chelsea is winter wonderland for Negroni lovers (eg, me). Inside, cavatelli, home-made semolina pasta — aka priest’s ears — with langoustine sauce.

To celebrate Tom Kitchin’s book Meat & Game a lunch cooked by curly-haired Tom himself at Fortnum & Mason includes roasted loin and braised haunch of venison from the borders.

Sunday night Chinese is at Mayfair Garden, starting with lobster dumplings and chilli sauce.
