Fay Maschler's week in food, from Carousel to Veeraswamy

Spanish lunch: Treats at El Pirata
Fay Maschler21 November 2018

At Carousel, onion crisp with beef tartare at photographer Joakim Blockström’s Chef’s Hands exhibition and auction raising funds for the important Pilot Light campaign — burning the stigma around mental health in kitchens.

Lunch with Fred Sirieix — it was a first date — at El Pirata starts with Cinco Jotas Iberico Bellota Pata Negra, as a Spanish lunch should.

Immaculate coq au Riesling from a menu masterminded by Simon Hopkinson for the Fête du Beaujolais at Noble Rot. Rowley Leigh’s beurre blanc on smoked eel salad is another wowzer.

Dinner cooked by the artist Emma Douglas at her home. Sautéed vegetables are as verdant as the window boxes which she also designs.

Twinkling angels in Regent Street peer in at us at Indian stalwart Veeraswamy, where chicken in pistachio sauce redolent with spices is one of the royal recipes from a Mughal court.
