Popular Portuguese restaurant and wine hotspot Bar Douro has announced it will launch its second London location in the City this summer.

Following on from the success of the Instagram-favourite restaurant in London Bridge’s Flat Iron Square, Bar Douro City will open at 1 Finsbury Avenue in Broadgate later this year.

The new restaurant is to be housed in a Grade II-listed building, and will seat 44 covers indoors (26 on tables and 18 at the counter), with 22 covers available on a sheltered outdoor terrace.

The interior will see the return of the hand-painted Portuguese “azulejos” tiles popular in the original restaurant, sitting alongside a marble counter imported from Aveiro in Portugal and a traditional mosaic floor made from hand-cut “Calçada Portuguesa” stone.

Restaurateur Max Graham is once again teaming up with Bar Douro head chef Sean Marsh, who will serve a menu of petiscos (snack), pratinhos (small plates) and pratos (large plates) at the City site, with a focus on sharing and family feasting. The dessert offering will naturally include Bar Douro’s acclaimed pasteis del nata, the custard-filled pastry cups that are considered Portugal’s national dish.

The drinks list is set to offer one of London’s largest selections of Portuguese wines. It will focus on independent winemakers, serve a “cellar list” of fine wines, and include a variety of Portuguese wines and craft beers not currently available in the UK. Owner Graham spent his childhood in Porto and the Douro Valley, where his family set up Churchill’s Port, the first British port company established in more than 50 years.

“We are hugely excited to be opening a second Bar Douro in Broadgate,” said Graham, “continuing our mission to be a platform for Portugal in London, showcasing the very best of Portuguese food and wine.”
