Anthony Demetre says his new Shoreditch restaurant will not cater “dude food” to hipsters.

The Saturday Kitchen Live star opens his first restaurant in five years, Urban Coterie, on November 5 but is adamant it will not follow trends. He says the venue, on the 16th and 17th floors of the M By Montcalm hotel, will offer a seasonal and affordable menu.

“I don’t want the menu littered with luxury items,” he says. “We will include scallops, line-caught turbot but we will also serve sardines. We are not offering dude food or catering to hipsters. It will be more sophisticated and elegant. We are not doing pulled pork.”

Dishes include monkfish with cockles and rosemary and anchovy vinaigrette and pig’s head with parmesan potato doughnuts. The venue, a collaboration with Searcys, will offer wine by the carafe and have no tablecloths, as with the Michelin-starred chef’s Arbutus in Soho and Wild Honey in Mayfair.

Demetre, 49, lives in Ealing Common with his wife and two sons and is convinced that west London will one day rival east as a food destination. He added: “I would love to open something on my doorstep.”
