Chef Andrew Clarke is to host a one-off dinner in Hackney next month in aid of Pilot Light, an organisation which supports conversation around mental health in the hospitality industry.

The former St Leonards chef is teaming up with The Fisheries, a co-working space in Hackney, to host the fundraising dinner on November 12.

"Coming together has never been so important,” says Hugo Warner, founder of The Fisheries and cafe brand Benugo. “People are desperate for interaction after such a long time spent at home. Looking after people’s mental health is more relevant now than ever and this dinner is a way for guests to enjoy time together over a great meal and to re-socialise in a safe and comfortable way."

Clarke and Warner – who have both had experiences with mental health illness – will work together on the evening’s five-course menu. Served family-style at tables of six in The Fisheries' Green Room, the seasonal spread will focus on local suppliers and feature dishes inspired by south west France.

Clarke founded Pilot Light in 2016 with fellow chef Doug Sanham as a way to highlight mental health within the specific context of professional kitchens and the wider hospitality sector.

“This dinner is all about good old fashioned hospitality,” says Clarke. “We want to get people around the table to eat, drink and talk mental health.”

The Pilot Light dinner will take place on November 12 at The Fisheries, 1 Mentmore Terrace, E8 3PN. Tickets available via eventbrite.co.uk
