The UK’s first ever Bi Pride will take place in London this weekend.

Having its first outing in September to coincide with Bi Visibility Month, this is number one of two brand new prides, as Trans Pride has its debut the following weekend.

Despite bi people making up a large proportion of the LGBTQ+ community, the group is one of the least visible. Bisexuality is accompanied by a number of negative stereotypes: women can be viewed as “attention seeking” and bi men are accused of going through a phase before fully coming out. This comes from both straight and other queer people, and continues to be perpetuated in popular culture.

“Even this year there have been reports of abusive comments towards bi people at prides, and bi-erasure is a fact of life many bi people have to deal with on a regular basis,” says Lev Alexander, media manager for Bi Pride UK. “The comments of ‘you're not real’, ‘pick a side’, ‘stop being greedy’ get really tiresome and dull after a while.

"It's time to change the conversation into a positive and empowering direction.”

It’s set to be a big day, with performances and talks and for bisexual, queer, pansexual and fluid people, and allies as well. Here's everything you need to know – get your pink, purple and blue flags at the ready.

When and where is Bi Pride?

It takes place at the Round Chapel in Hackney on Saturday September 7, 2-10pm. The closest stations are Hackney Central and Hackney Downs, both on the overground line.

How do I get tickets?

Entry to Bi Pride is free but there is limited space. You can reserve a place on eventbrite, though there will be a few tickets available on the door.

What's on the programme?

There are two stages in the Round Chapel. The first is the Entertainment Stage, where there will be performances from bisexual cabaret CaBiRet, drag group the Family Jewels and comedian Cerys Bradley among others. The I Am Proud stage will hold panel discussions, talks and spoken word from the likes of Jamie Windust and Lewis Oakley.

In the Community Village section, expect stalls for charities and Prides from across the UK, as well as food and drink, and places to shop.
