Hoi Polloi: A go-to for brunches and power lunches

The Ace Hotel's diner provides day-to-night delights
Ben Olsen31 January 2018

The arrival of the Ace Hotel to Shoreditch High Street in 2013 signalled a hip awakening of a thoroughfare that had suffered an identity crisis following Shoreditch's emergence as a nightlife destination for out-of-towners. Signing up boutique brands and businesses from artisan doughnut makers to florists to operate in its floorspace, it's a model that's since been imitated across the capital.

It's through the doors of said florist that you access Hoi Polloi, which is a go-to for brunches and power lunches thanks to a high-end menu of modern British fare, including substantial salads, toasties and heartier dishes including a standout bavette steak. An excellent value prix fixe menu rewards early-evening diners, while an eclectic calendar of art events, DJ'd dinners and queer cabaret provides plenty of reason to pay return visits.
