The organisers of an East London sculpture trail hope to encourage more visitors after unveiling their first ever commissioned works, to mark their first birthday.

The Line, which links Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the O2, has more than a dozen works on a three-mile route, including sculptures by Martin Creed, Damien Hirst and Eduardo Paolozzi.

Its newest addition is sculptor James Balmforth’s work at the Royal Docks, Inhibition Point — a steel column three metres high with a section gouged out of the middle, leaving just enough material to stop it collapsing in on itself.

Alex Chinneck’s A Bullet From A Shooting Star takes the form of an upside-down electrcity pylon balancing on its tip, and is one of a cluster of sculptures on the Thames Path around the O2.

Art dealer Megan Piper, co-founder of the project, said: “As The Line’s first birthday approaches, it’s exciting to introduce works by James Balmforth and Alex Chinneck to the project.

“I hope that locals and Londoners will walk The Line to see these new additions, and look forward to announcing details of upcoming projects.”

James Balmforth has an exhibition opening at Hannah Barry Gallery in Peckham on June 11.
