Fancy a flat white? This Sauvignon Blanc can be delivered through your letterbox

Londoners no longer have to wait in for a delivery of wine — they can simply have the bottles posted through their letterbox instead.

Garçon Wines revealed its flat 750ml plastic wine bottle earlier this year and has now launched a delivery service in the capital.

The company is working with Bloom & Wild, the online florists that deliver flowers packaged in a slim container. Customers can pick between two wines— a Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, both from Chile.

At the moment, the wines are only available as part of Bloom & Wild’s “Celebration” and “Birthday” gift boxes, which cost £45 and also contain flowers and a box of chocolates. The firm is working on its online shop and will launch the product on its own within weeks. The price of the wines is yet to be decided, but will be “under £20 a bottle”. Last year, London co-founder Joe Revell said the firm was working with some large brands to increase the range.

Because sending glass in the post is heavy and potentially dangerous, each bottle is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic. It is slightly taller than a standard bottle, but about half as thick and 87 per cent lighter.

The wine only has a shelf life of 12 to 18 months because the bottle doesn’t offer the same oxygen barrier properties as glass. Santiago Navarro, chief executive and co-founder of Garçon Wines, said the aim had been to create environmentally friendly wine bottles that would “revolutionise the way consumers received wine”.

Garçon launched its bottle company last year after winning a £20,000 investment on CNBC’s version of Dragon’s Den — Pop Up Start Up.
