KFC to test 'vegetarian options' in the UK

Let's hope they're coated with the 11 secret herbs and spices

Here’s a sentence I thought I’d never type: KFC – the beloved fried chicken chain – are working on vegetarian options for the UK market.

The company recently shared its plans to add undisclosed 'vegetarian options' to its menu - and UK consumers will be the first to test it out.

These options are part of KFC’s mission to cut their calories per serving by 20 per cent and the company has also said they have plans to introduce a range of meals under 600 calories in the next few years.

The vegetarian options are expected to hit UK menus later this year and, if successful, go worldwide in early 2019.

The chain told FoodBeast: “Once we’ve perfected the recipe we aim to test with customers this year, and if all goes well, we hope to launch a new vegetarian option in 2019.”

Many fast food chains are jumping on the health food band wagon with McDonald’s launching its first ever vegan burger last year and Byron Burgers launching their first vegan burger in April.

Note: a previous version of this article stated KFC was introducing vegetarian fried chicken. This is not correct but they are working on 'vegetarian options'. We guess we'll find out what these are in due course ...
