Garlic and chilli pitta bread

Just enough of a chilli kick to lift it
Gluten-free pitta would go nicely with butter but nothing fussier
23 April 2012

What: Garlic and chilli pitta bread (£2.50)

Where from: Genius, from Tesco branches or geniusglutenfree.com

Taste assessment: If you didn’t know this was gluten free, you’d be hard pushed to tell as it’s not nearly as dry as the other bakery products you can buy in the Free From supermarket aisle. It does crumble more than your average pitta bread but after a quick toasting, the smell of garlic came through and there was just enough of a chilli kick to lift it. Would go nicely with butter but nothing fussier. My suggestion would be for Genius to change its pitta packaging. Clear cellophane decorated with small pale green flowers makes it look like there is a mould infestation – not appealing on bread.
