Five things Fay Maschler ate this week

It's roasted pheasant at Rules, lasagne at Wahaca and steak at Zoilo for Fay
23 January 2013

1. At the noble Rules, established 1798, delectable game pithivier for which the accompanying roasted pheasant was just a frame.

2. In the eight-seater private room at Zoilo in Marylebone, satisfying confirmation that its Argentinian grass-fed ojo de bife (rib-eye) with chimmichurri raises the steaks in this town.

3. One hard-boiled egg, a heaped dessertspoon of 1.5 per cent fat cottage cheese, five cherry tomatoes sliced in half; yup, lunch on the 5:2 diet. It’s working but maybe not yet so you’d notice.

4. Individual huitlacoche (aka corn smut) lasagne, right, at the “Girls’ Lunch” hosted by Thomasina Miers at Wahaca in Charlotte Street encouraged a high level of gossip.

5. Blood orange and lemon curd with meringues, which I made to celebrate dear Reg’s birthday — on one of the five days of carefree eating.
