Baking enthusiasts looking for something different to do in London this summer may consider a class in one of the world's top cookery schools.

Le Cordon Bleu London offers a variety of short courses, one of which is Mastering Macaroons, a six-hour course led by the school’s patisserie Master Chefs.

The class will provide the key skills needed to master the delicate art of macaroon-making. The four main varieties of macaroon are covered so participants will make trays of Macaron de Nancy, coconut macaroons, traditional French types and Italian options.

Presentation is key

There is also the opportunity to make a gorgeous pistachio or chocolate ganache filling and the course concludes with piping techniques and an opportunity to show creativity when decorating the finished products.

Spending six hours with a Cordon Bleu chef offers a valuable opportunity to learn from the best in a relaxed and open environment. No experience is necessary and questions are encouraged by the friendly, hands-on team.

Expect to learn some interesting facts about the difference between a macaron and a macaroon as well as a host of useful tips that can be extended to general baking – such as how to prevent ganache being ruined by air bubbles.

Participants take home their delicious treats

There is also lots of information on the best places to source ingredients and kitchen equipment and even details such as the best way to store the macaroons are covered.

Participants take home their creations which should prove popular with friends, family and neighbours.

A sweet treat for keen bakers.
