Chef's table: Bronte Aurell, co-founder and director of Scandinavian Kitchen

Bronte Aurell, co-founder and director of Scandinavian Kitchen, tells us where she likes to eat out.

Where would you pay money to eat out? "For a super treat, I’d head to Hedone in Chiswick (301-303 Chiswick High Road, W4; hedonerestaurant.com). I adore this place. If I’m in the mood for an evening out with traditional Swedish food, we head to Stockholm Deli in East Sheen (109 Sheen Lane, East Sheen, SW1; stockholmdeli.co.uk) where Göran Landh cooks up a storm."

Why? "I simply really like the menu [at Hedone]. It’s French inspired but still feels uncomplicated. Although the menu is not Nordic, they do follow simple lines and create fuss-free food that still tastes amazing. It’s the focus on good ingredients that always wins for me.

Stockholm Deli is so wonderful because it is all about home. You’d think that being owners of a Scandinavian café we might be sick of Nordic food, but it's quite the opposite. As ex-pats I think you start to understand your own food culture and origins better, appreciating them more. I’m a true Nordic: it’s rye bread and herring all the way for me and I doubt that this will ever stop being my favourite things to eat in life."

What do you eat there? "At Hedone, the broken duck egg with girolles. I’d have the Dorset deer for mains and finish with the Apple Millefuille and caramel ice cream.

At Stockholm Deli, I’d eat the Swedish caviar called Vendace Roe on potato pancakes – this roe is unlike any other caviar. It’s perfectly balanced. Goran also makes better meatballs than my mother (please don't tell her I said that)."

Who would you take? "For a trip to Hedone, I’d take my husband, Jonas, with whom I run our café and deli. I’d invite some good friends who appreciate wine and food as much as we do. If we’re heading to eat traditional food, I bring the kids along. The best meals are the ones with people who stimulate conversation, who make you laugh, who make you think and who share a deep love of how the food is made and where it comes from. You can't go wrong with that."
