FRIDAY

XOYO's Second Birthday

XOYO, Fri Aug 22

It's hard to believe but it's only been two years since Shoreditch mainstay XOYO's big makeover. To celebrate, it's throwing two blockbuster parties on consecutive Fridays, the second of which kicks off the bank holiday weekend. Rinse FM regular Oneman headlines, showcasing his tastes in hip-hop, grime and garage. Joining him are US producer Cashmere Cat and Canadian electronic maestro Ryan Hemsworth.

The Hydra

Studio Spaces, Aug 22-24

Underground ravers The Hydra are throwing a trio of parties in Wapping across the bank holiday but Friday's showing is arguably the strongest. Detroit techno veteran Carl Craig tops the bill, backed by the host of emerging producers. Room 2 has a more eclectic flavour, with world music pioneer Gilles Peterson in charge and South African house don Black Coffee also performing.

SATURDAY

South West Four

Clapham Common, Aug 23-24

Now well established as a mainstay of the bank holiday, this two-day dance festival has more big names than a Greek wedding. The Saturday features heavy-hitters such as Loco Dice, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and Sasha, as well as a headline set from Paul Kalkbrenner, the German techno whizz’s only UK show this year. Sunday sees Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, Maceo Plex and many more take to the stage.

Troupe Terrace Party

Egg, Sat Aug 23

No bank holiday clubbing guide would be complete without a few good roof parties and it's seasoned underground house and techno promoters Troupe filling the quota on Saturday. Soulful house producer Dennis Ferrer will be on the decks along with Hannah Wants, Applebottom and more.

Bussey Building Seven Year Anniversary

Bussey Building, Sat Aug 23

Peckham's Bussey Building has become one of London's hottest night spots over the last year or so but the venue, officially known as the CLF Art Café, has been going a lot longer than that. To celebrate seven years in business, founder Jazzheadchronic will be doing what he does best — playing a special five-hour extended set of funk, soul, disco, hip hop and house. Joining him will be Boston funk rockers Bad Rabbits, performing live.

If you have to ask what type of music they’ll be playing this probably isn’t for you.
