Wise move from Crown & Sceptre

10 April 2012

A while ago, the Crown & Sceptre underwent a modest transformation changing it from a mostly vertical drinking experience, to the much more loungey style of interior we've come to expect from Mitchells and Butlers pubs.

The booze is pretty much as it was, with a few real ales on the hand pumps (eg. Pride) and Continental beers on tap, a decent wine list and plenty of spirits if you're in need of the hard stuff. With the interior changes and a renewed emphasis on food, it's no longer the hardcore booze and sport pub it long ago once was (although it's pretty hectic at times) and, given the changes happening in the area - moving upmarket and more residential, it's probably a wise move.

The Weekday evenings media and rag trade crowd probably don't notice the difference, but at quieter times (afternoons, usually) it's a welcome improvement. Handy for recovering from shopping expeditions to the hell that is Oxford Street.
