The Shrub and Shutter - bar review

This grown-up cocktail bar is a very welcome addition to Brixton, says Kate Lough
Brixton vibe: grab an unusual cocktail at The Shrub and Shutter
Kate Lough26 October 2015

What they say: A new cocktail bar with modern, interactive and fresh bespoke cocktails created with local, seasonal and homemade ingredients.

What we say: Joining Three Eight Four up the road, S&S is another welcome addition to the Brixton scene. At first you might think the cocktails sound a bit gimmicky — crayfish with your vodka? — but they are expertly made. You can always judge a place by their “mocktails” and the ones here will tempt you into teetotaldom.

Good for: Dates — sides of meat and fish on your glass are a talking point.

Short and sharp: Shrub and Shutter cocktail

Order: The Shrub and Shutter: Whitley Neill gin, green chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, cucumber shrub, toasted fennel sugar, chlorophyll bitters and, erm, a side of blow-torched fennel. A short, sharp drink.

By the way: Hungry? The rib-eye steak tastes excellent and is also decently priced.
