Camden Market is set to get its first-ever pub as the Farrier opens its doors after a six month delay.

The Farrier is set to open for outdoor dining on April 15 – three days after lockdown restrictions ease for al fresco eating and drinking – with a heated courtyard complete with a firepit. While the market has plenty of food and drink, it’s never had its own pub and the Farrier moves into buildings that once were home to a horse hospital.

Co-owner George Hartshorn told the Standard the new venture would be heavily food-focused, with chef Ash Finch in the kitchen: Finch previously worked under multi-Michelin-starred chefs Alain Ducasse, Marcus Wareing and Anthony Demetre. Finch will lead a kitchen cooking in a modern British style, offering the likes of game pie, smoked wild pigeon and crab mac and cheese. There will also be a weekly Sunday roast, and later ticketed evening offerings including the likes of Nose-to-Tail dinners, drawing inspiration from St John.

Wine will also play a prominent part of the opening, with a floor-to-ceiling wine wall focusing on natural, biodynamic and organic wines from small producers, including what’s arguably been the wine of lockdown, Chin Chin Vinho Verde.

The pub had originally planned to launch ahead of the November lockdown, but hasn’t been able to open since then – though Hartshorn told the Standard the quiet streets had made it easier to work on some of the pub’s interiors.

Hartshorn is opening the site with two fellow Leeds-hailing hospitality old hands, Chris Gibson and Ollie Patterson.

“It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally emerging on the other side and ready to welcome Londoners with open arms for quality comfort food, wine and some much needed good times,” said Patterson.
