The Drapers Arms: this pub has reasonably priced food and a slightly secluded location
10 April 2012

A friendly local in Barnsbury, this has a lot going for it.

Decent beer on the pumps as well as more unusual choices like the American Brooklyn lager, reasonably priced food and a slightly secluded location. We've not been back for some time, so it was a delightful surprise to pop in and find it changed for the better.

Okay, it's more gastro than traditional pub, but it is still possible to get a drink in here.

There's a lovely garden for a warm summer's day and plenty of seating to go round. And if you're after the food experience, there's always the upstairs restaurant for that sort of thing. Okay, it's kid friendly, but it hasn't yet become a push chair park, at least not when we were last in.

With this and the Barnsbury around the corner, it's hard not to feel a little spoiled for choice in this part of Barnsbury! Not entirely sure what all the Penguin books in the nook around the fire are for, but makes for an interesting visual spectacle.

NEAREST STATION: Caledonian Road and Barnsbury station
FEATURES: disabled facilities, real ale, regular guest beers, kid friendly and a separate restaurant
