Spend time with the locals at Mawbey Arms

Mawbey Arms
10 April 2012

Should we really be bothering ourselves with a pub in the middle of an estate, somewhere off the Wandsworth Road? Well, if you're of the opinion that the majority of London's interesting pubs are being airbrushed and sanitised out of existence, then yes, you should, for the Mawbey Arms is an unreconstructed, old time, boozer - the sort of gaff where the locals all know each other and the between-pint banter is well honed and not without interest (such as, a detailed discussion of London's Elvis impersonators).

That's all very well, but there are a few other factors at work to commend this one, namely a couple of ales, a well-maintained interior, a larger-than-expected outdoor area and a dart board (which if perhaps a little inaccessible behind some tables and chairs, still looks like it takes a fairly regular pounding).

But despite the yellow and green exterior, at its heart this one's a True Blue Chelsea pub (which you may want to take on board). A far higher rating if you're a regular, but we've enjoyed our visits to this one so it nips in as a 3 pinter.
