A traditional Young's pub that's been given the redecoration and rebranding which so many other Young's pubs have had in the past few years.

Perhaps the thinking is that the cultured visitors to Tate Britain wouldn't dream of setting foot in an old fashioned pub, so let's give them something more modern.

Whilst we're sad to see that this one's interior has been altered a little - we're sure there used to be a few booths on the wall as you went in - to make room for more "vertical drinkers", the most noticeable change is now the level of service. The Morpeth always seemed to have all the right ingredients for a great pub, but in our experience it missed the mark.

The refurbished Morpeth won't satisfy everyone, but the alterations aren't as wholesale as in some other Young's pubs and, thankfully, they haven't resulted in the Morpeth ending up as a wannabe gastropub.

The beer is as good as it ever was and the service from the staff has definitely improved: reason enough then for this one to be promoted to a three pint rating.
