Sample the four bars of The Crown

Grandeur: The Crown
10 April 2012

Cricklewood may have suffered in the past, being the less trendy northern neighbour to Kilburn, but it oozes history and comedy - and The Crown is definitely included.

An imposing exterior (the pub has its own bus stops), the inside does not disappoint either.

There are four bars - three downstairs and one upstairs - all of which have fires in the winter, big leather chairs, smart floor tiles, funny brass lamps and individual character.

People seeking quiet should go to the Long Bar, to the right of the building, adjoined with the hotel.

The front bar shows football and is generally quite busy, while the Cocktail Bar (we can't vouch for the cocktails) at the left-back often has live music.

The range of drinks is rather limited - this is Guinness territory - but when it is available the Landlord is pleasant enough.

The food is above average with a range of Irish dishes designed to warm your cockles, and the Sunday lunch option is very impressive.

The main downside are the prices, which probably reflect the history and grandeur of the pub rather than its location.

Nearest station: Cricklewood

Features: accommodation, real ales, live music, outdoor seating, separate restaurant, Sky TV (small screens)
