Pearl’s at The Cat & Mutton - bar review

Tasty cocktails named after old landlords and good grub from Licky Chops, Kate Lough approves of the new bar at The Cat & Mutton
Revamped: Pearl's, upstairs at Cat & Mutton

What they say: bar impresario Tom Gibson of Ruby’s Dalston restores the 300-year-old Broadway Market boozer to its former glory.

What we say: The Cat — packed when we visited — felt like its old self but smartened up and with better food, drinks and service. The old East End boozer feel continues upstairs at Pearl’s, where pints are swapped for decent experimental cocktails (all at £8.50) with such names as Ethel’s Wish and Pearly Queen after previous landlords.

Good for: everything — quick pints downstairs, weeknight cocktails and all-day weekend drinking.

Order: Bloody Ruby — gin, Campari, blood orange, lemon and egg white — or Fiery Mare: gin, Kamm & Sons, cucumber, wasabi and lemon.

By the way: Licky Chops are doing the food (very well) on both floors — we loved the burnt broccoli and the octopus.
