After a balmy start to November the mercury has plummeted and the nights have drawn in. Warm the cockles with our pick of London's best hot cocktails, says Kate Lough

RUBY WARMER AT HAKKASAN

What: The original London Hakkasan has kicked off its new Sunday dim sum afternoons, and as part of the £58 (per person) menu, which includes thesignature steamed dim sum and, my personal favourite, the crispy duck salad, you can opt for a Ruby Warmer: a cockle-warming mix of Tuaca brandy liqueur, port, cinnamon, nutmeg and liquorice bitters.

Find it: 8 Hanway Place, W1T 1HD; hakkasan.com

HOT SPICED RUM & GINGER AT SHRIMPY'S

What: This Kings Cross favourite closes up for good on December 23 so you need to hotfoot it there for one last soft shell crab burger. While you're there, you can warm your hands on its new winter cocktail, a Hot Spiced Rum & Ginger that stirs together ginger beer and salted spiced toffee syrup, garnished with a cinnamon stick and star anise.

Find it: King's Cross Filling Station, Goods Way, N1C 4UR; shrimpys.co.uk

BUENA VISTA IRISH COFFEE AT MERCHANTS TAVERN

What: A great bar for dates, you can break the ice at Merchants Tavern with a round of its take on an Irish coffee. A creamy mix of 12-year-old Redbreast whiskey, Merchants molasses syrup and Allpress Colombian blend coffee.

Find it: 36 Charlotte Road, EC2A 3PG; merchantstavern.co.uk

Creamy: Buena Vista Irish Coffee at Merchants Tavern

GRANDMA'S WHISKERS AT WIGWAMBAM: WOODLANDIA

What: The Queen of Hoxton's rooftop wigwam is back. It's all about candlelight, tree stumps for seats, toasting marshmallows, a barbecue grill and steaming cocktails. As well as hot toddies and hot buttered rum, the outside bar will be serving up Grandma's Whiskers: eggnog with a whiskey-inspired twist.

Find it: Queen of Hoxton rooftop, 1 Curtain Road, EC2A 3JX; queenofhoxton.com/rooftop

HOT BONNIE TODDY AT BONNIE GULL

What: Both the Bonnie Gull Seafood Cafe (Exmouth Market)) and Shack (Fitzrovia) will be heating up with their twist on the hot toddy: Louis Royer VSOP cognac, orange liqueur, bergamot syrup, lemon juice and a knob of slightly salted butter. No danger of a winter cold with this one.

Find it: Fitzrovia; Exmouth Market; bonniegull.com

FIVE SPICED MULLED NEGRONI AT NIGHT TALES

What: Settling down for seven weeks of street food, cocktails and music, Night Tales is London's hottest winter pop-up. Pay a visit to the Hot Hut Cocktail Bar and warm up your paws with dream drink the Five Spiced Mulled Negroni: campari, sweet vermouth and gin are gently warmed with Cabernet Sauvignon, fresh orange and five spice. High five to that. Food-wise Patty & Bun will be flipping burgers and Voodoo Ray's will be slicing pizzas.

Find it: From November 7 at 288 Old Street, EC2A; nighttales.co.uk
