Going out with Mr Hudson

New band BIGkids talk pubs, clubs and their favourite things to do in London
Gareth Vipers12 July 2012

Having collaborated with Jay-Z and toured with the likes of Amy Winehouse and Kanye West, Ben Hudson is no stranger to the highlife. Now promoting his newest project, BIGkids, a collaborative project with signer Rosie Oddie (yes, daughter of Bill), it seems the former jetting setting top ten selling artist has settled for the humble reaches of Camden’s Crown and Goose pub.

Here he tells us his favourite spots in the capital with our BIGkids going out guide…

What’s your favourite area of London and why?

Camden, because it's all about music and having a laugh. It's not about money or being a dedicated follower of fashion. It’s also full of beautiful people. Start at the Wheelbarrow and see where the madness leads you.

What’s the best pub there?

The Crown and Goose. Try the Sunday roast – it is an industrial strength hangover cure. Be sure to tell them BIGkids sent you.

Which is your favourite venue in Camden?

There are so many to choose from but we'd love to play the Electric Ballroom or KOKO. They both have such a good vibe. KOKO has this amazing interior, plus you can either get sweaty down the front or lord in up on one of the many balconies.

What’s your favourite London restaurant, and what should we order?

MEATLiquor behind Debenhams on Oxford Street. Order the chilli cheese fries, the wings and the deep fried pickles, and ask the barman to surprise you with one of their mind bending cocktails like the absinthe vs bourbon!

Tell us about your favourite London attraction or guilty pleasure?

We want to go to Madame Tussauds because it's the kind of thing that only tourists do but it looks very funny and there’s always a massive queue outside.

On the verge of London’s busiest ever summer, what event are you most looking forward to?

Lovebox Festival. Mainly because we are playing, but also because having a festival in east London is a brilliant opportunity and much better than being stranded in the middle of nowhere – you can go out after or cycle home. Result!

If you could live in any London building which would it be and why?

Big Ben would make an effective alarm clock, plus you’d get a great view of the river. You could hang out in the House of Lords, and there’s a few bars in the House of Commons.

BIGkids play their debut London show this Thursday at The Ballyhoo (formerly The Bowery), 36-38 New Oxford Street, WC1A 1EP (020 4033 0085).
